About Aesence

In 2015 Sarah founded Aesence out of a deep fascination for minimalist aesthetics and a frustration with the lack of resources dedicated to the subject. What began as a personal archive of notes, research, artworks, and designs gradually developed into one of the leading publications dedicated to minimalist art and design.

At its core, Aesence is driven by the conviction that contemporary minimalist art deserves more attention in the noisy art world. Too often, art with a reductive aesthetic is still discussed primarily in relation to the Minimal Art movement of the 1960s. Aesence seeks to move beyond that narrow perspective and to highlight the many facets of this art form – as something deeply sensual and emotional. Through artist interviews, studio visits, exhibition reviews and in-depth essays, the publication rethinks contemporary minimalist art and anchors it firmly in the present.

Her first book, The Art of Less – An Exploration of Essence, co-authored with Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen, will be published by Gestalten in September 2026.
