Sarah Dorweiler (b.1987) is a photographer, art director, and the founder of Aesence. With her work, she explores how (minimalist) aesthetics shape our visual, spatial, and emotional experiences.

Originally trained in architecture, her photographic work often focuses on urban and built environments. Through a restrained visual language, her images move between documentation and abstraction, transforming the seemingly ordinary into a contemplative experience.

In 2015, she founded Aesence, an independent publication dedicated to promoting and celebrating minimalist aesthetics in art and design. With in-depth essays, interviews, studio visits and exhibition reviews, the publication explores the quiet depth of an aesthetic that is often admired but rarely examined with the attention it deserves.

In her first book, The Art of Less – An Exploration of Essence, co-authored with Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and published by Gestalten, she explores contemporary minimalism not simply as an aesthetic, but as a sensory and intellectual practice.
